Dr Gaye W Cronin

Gaye W. Cronin, OTD, OTR is a master clinician in vestibular rehabilitation having treated approximately 20,000 patients suffering from vestibular and balance disorders. She received her Bachelor of Science and Masters Degrees from the Medical College of Georgia and her Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from the University of St. Augustine. She has 29 years of clinical experience. Since 1988, she has been the Director of Vestibular Rehabilitation and Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Programs at the Atlanta Ear Clinic. Dr. Cronin is very enthusiastic about these dynamic, evidenced based programs. She has published extensively in medical and therapy professional journals and has taught numerous instructional courses for occupational therapists, physical therapists, audiologists, and physicians. She has received multiple academic, professional, and community awards for her extensive work in vestibular rehabilitation, and is an associate professor for the Medical College of Georgia and the University of St. Augustine.
 
Dr Teresa Ching

Dr Teresa YC Ching, PSM received her doctorate degree from the University of London. She had held faculty appointments at the University of London and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and research fellowships at Macquarie University and the University of Newcastle. Currently, she is a Senior Research Scientist at the National Acoustic Laboratories and an Honorary Research Fellow at Macquarie University in Australia. Dr Ching is honoured by a Public Service Medal for her ground-breaking discoveries about the early intervention of hearing loss. She conducted the world-first population-based study showing that children born with hearing loss can develop the same language skills as their normal-hearing peers if diagnosed early. Dr Ching has also researched the impact of hearing aids worn in conjunction with cochlear implants, and her results have changed the hearing industry’s approach to cochlear implants and paved the way for future research by showing how the function of hearing aids on cochlear implant users can be combined. Her research interests also include hearing aid amplification requirements for children and adults, as well as subjective and objective evaluation of intervention for children.
 
Dr Richard E. Gans

Dr. Gans is the founder and director of the American Institute of Balance in Largo, Florida, USA. The Institute is among one of the United States largest and most comprehensive centers for the diagnosis and treatment of vestibular and balance disorders. The Institute serves as a training site for students from numerous universities. The Institute’s Education Foundation is well known for it’s postgraduate education workshops. Since 1994, nearly 5,000 audiologists, physicians, physical and occupational therapists from around the world have attended these programs.

Dr. Gans is an adjunct professor at the University of South Florida, University of Pittsburgh, and Nova Southeastern University. He has authored or presented over one hundred and fifty papers on vestibular topics including Benign Paroxysmal Vertigo, Audiovestibular Symptoms of Migraine and Vestibular Rehabilitation. He is the author of the book Vestibular Rehabilitation: Protocols and Programs (1996). He has written chapters in several well-known textbooks including the new edition of Audiology-Diagnosis (2007) and Balance Function Assessment and Management (2008). He has developed several tests and treatments for vestibular disorders including the AIB Dynamic Visual Acuity Test (AIB CDVAT) and the Gans Repositioning Maneuver for treatment of PC-BPPV. He is a past president and a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and a scientific-affiliate member of the American Academy of Neurology.

Donald M. Goldberg, Ph.D., CCC-SLP/A, FAAA, LSLS Cert. AVT, is currently the Co-Director of the Hearing Implant Program (HIP) at the Cleveland Clinic's Head and Neck Institute (Cleveland, Ohio). Goldberg earned his Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 1985. He has been a professor (The College of Wooster/1996-2005; University of Connecticut/1988-1989; and the University of Montana/1985-1998) and is the former Executive Director of the Helen Beebe Speech and Hearing Center (in Easton, Pennsylvania/1989-1996). He is the co-author of "Educational Audiology for the Limited Hearing Infant and Preschooler: An Auditory-Verbal Program" (Pollack, Goldberg, & Caleffe-Schenck) and has presented on the topics of auditory-verbal therapy, auditory-speech-language assessment, cochlear implants, teaching children with multiple disabilities, counseling, educational audiology, pediatric audiology, and early intervention for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families -- throughout the United States, Canada, and in Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Austria, Hungary, and Italy.
 
Dr Brian Westerberg

Dr. Brian Westerberg is an Otolaryngologist specializing in Otology and Neurotology. His clinical practice is based in Vancouver at St. Paul’s Hospital.

Dr. Westerberg graduated from Queen’s University Faculty of Medicine in 1989. He then completed two years of Residency training in General Surgery before transferring to Vancouver to complete further training in Otolaryngology at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Westerberg completed a Fellowship in Otology and Neurotology at the California Ear Institute at Stanford University during 1995-96. He completed a Masters in Health Science in the Department of Health Care and Epidemiology at the University of British Columbia in May 1999. He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor within the Department of Surgery, University of British Columbia.

Ms. Loo has been working as an audiologist in NUH who specialises in paediatric audiology since 2001. Besides her clinical work, she is actively involved in research work related to cochlear implants management and central auditory processing disorder in children. At present, she is pursuing her PhD at the University College London (UCL) and her current research project is the management of children with CAPD associated with PAX6 mutation.

Dr Raymond Ngo graduated in 1995 from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland with 2nd class honours in Medicine. His internship was done in St James Hospital, Ireland. He returned to Singapore to complete his national service in 1996. After National Service, he was accepted into the National Specialty Training program for Otolarynogology. His degrees include the MRCS in General Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, the MMed and FAMS in Otolarynology with the Graduate Medical School, National University Singapore. He completed his Fellowship in Otology - Neurotology at the St Paul's Hospital & Vancouver General Hospital, Canada under Dr Brian Westerberg and Dr Neil Longridge.

He has a subspecialty practice in middle ear surgery for infections and hearing loss, cochlear implantation, lateral skull base surgery and vestibular diagnosis and treatment.

He is also a clinical teacher with the National University of Singapore where he is involved in the teaching of medical undergraduates, mentoring of junior doctors and providing continuous medical education and updates to fellow doctors in general practice.

Dr Lynne Lim graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1992. She completed her ENT fellowship examinations in 1996 and ENT specialist training in 2001. She then did a 2 year paediatric ENT fellowship at Cincinnati Children Hospital Medical Centre, Ohio, one of the three accredited paediatric fellowships in USA. She has a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA (Healthcare Management, Society & Health, Clinical Trials, Advanced Epidemiology, Advanced Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Scientific Questionnaires, Quality Improvement).

Her current appointments at NUH are Consultant ENT Surgeon, Sectional Head of Paediatric ENT Service, Director of Centre for Hearing Intervention & Language Development & Director of Clinical Research. She is also a Visiting Consultant at the Kandang Kerbau Women Children Hospital. She is an Associate Professor with the National University of Singapore involved in teaching and examination of both undergraduate students and post-graduate doctors.

Dr Lynne Lim consults in both adult and paediatric cases of general ear, nose throat disorders, snoring & obstructive sleep apnea. In addition, she specialises in complex cases such as airway reconstruction (larynx, tracheal, cricotracheal reconstruction for airway & voice problems), ENT problems in syndromic children & patients with craniofacial disproportion, soft palate & pharyngeal surgery for hypernasal unclear speech and otologic procedures (mastoid, ossicular surgery, cochlear implants, implantable hearing aids).

Dr Lynne Lim has been an invited speaker to many international & regional lectures and contributed widely in research and publications in various peer reviewed international journals. She is an associate editor for the Singapore Medical Journal. She often participates as an invited faculty and directs Research Workshops for National Healthcare Group, Singapore.

 
Dr Loh Woei Shyang

Dr Loh is a consultant in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the National University Hospital, Singapore. Dr Loh earned his medical degree from the National University of Singapore. He started his residency in Otolaryngology in Singapore in 1998 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Jan 2000. He went on to complete his residency in 2003 and continued to pursue a fellowship in Paediatric Otolaryngology in The Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado, USA.

Dr Loh serves as a member in the Singapore Society of Otolaryngology as well as the Specialist Training Committee (Singapore) Education Subcommittee. He is also the Director of Postgraduate Training (Otolaryngology) in the National Health Group.

Dr Loh is trained in all aspect of paediatric otolaryngology, with special interest in hearing, airway and speech disorders in children. He also had extensive experience in cleft lip and palate management. His specific area of research interest is in paediatric obstructive sleep apnea and hearing disorders in children.

Engineer in Electronics from The Royal Danish Airforce and qualified as Technical Teacher. He has taken courses in Psychology.

Carsten Ahlbom has been working at Oticon A/S since 1975. Presently he is working in project groups with emphasis on audiology and is responsible for audiological education within the Oticon organisation as well as with customers. At Oticon he has previously worked as Project Manager, Service Manager, ITE Manager and was the initiator of the Oticon Education Department.

Dr. Mary Elizabeth Brinson, AuD, is the Director of Clinical Services, Research and Professional Training, Cochlear Asia Pacific. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, Athens, GA in Audiology/Speech Pathology, her master’s degree in Audiological Science from University of Manchester, England and doctorate degree in Audiology from University of Louisville, Kentucky.

She has held clinical and faculty positions at University of Louisville, Kentucky. In previous years, she has been a member of cochlear implant team in Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear, Hospital, London, England and the University of Louisville, Kentucky, USA.

Dr. Brinson has published papers on cochlear implants and FM fitting and verification in children with cochlear implants.

Sharad Govil, MSc (Audiology & Speech Pathology), FAAA joined Phonak in 2006 as an International Product Trainer for the Asian region. He has presented at numerous regional and international seminars on the topic of hearing instrument technology and its applications mainly in pediatric population. In his current role as Product & Audiology Manager, he works with network of audiologists and hearing care professionals in Asia to maximize their patient’s satisfaction and benefit with Phonak hearing instruments.  Prior to joining Phonak, he worked as a Clinical Audiologist and APD Co-coordinator at National Audiology Centre, Auckland from 2004-2006 and as Pediatric Audiologists from 2002-2004 at National University Hospital, Singapore. He holds a Masters Degree in Audiology & Speech pathology from the University of Mysore, India and received his Fellowship of American Academy of Audiology in 2003.
